Motivation Letter Essay Example for Free

Motivation Letter Essay I am new to this forum. While searching for samples of motivation letters, I came across many threads on this forum regrading this issue. I am a Syrian student, and this scholarship is so important for me because I can no longer complete my studies in Damascus. In the ranking criteria of this scholarships, the motivation letter has 20% of the application grading scheme. For this reason I need to make it as good as possible. Unfortunately I am new to writing this kind of letters, so I hope for some help. To make my letter clear, I just want to tell that the host university I chose is Technische UniversitÃÆ' ¤t Berlin. I am allowed to write up to 4000 characters. Here is my letter, â€Å"Where there’s a will, there’s a way,† one of the best proverbs I follow to achieve my goals and ambitions, starting from my early teenage. Since I was a student in the intermediate school, the major of study I wanted to take after high school was clear to me. Many difficulties faced me, but I could overcome all to achieve my dream in studying the major I want, Computer Science. I used to live in Lebanon during my childhood and teenage, but in 2006 the war obliged me to leave and move to Syria, my homeland. It was quite difficult to complete studying in the Syrian schools because of the huge differences between the Syrian and Lebanese curricula. Yet I succeeded, and graduated from high school with an average of 99.16 percent. In Syria, it is well common that the higher the student’s average is, the more probability the he/she chooses the faculty that requires high averages in high school, usually regardless what the student’s dream is. According to my average and this tradition, I was supposed to get into the major with the highest average, medicine. Yet I chose to get into the faculty of Information Technology Engineering, as the closest major to Computer Science (because this major is not found in Damascus University), ignoring all criticisms and oppositions I received. During the last three years of my study in this major, I gave very hard efforts. But unfortunately as the revolution started, its consequences had a negative affection on my studying and thus my average. Because of the absence of safety and stability, this academic year seems to be impossible to complete. I can hardly and sometimes never able to reach my faculty and attend the lectures; in addition to witnessing an hearing the sounds of explosions during all the studying hours in the faculty. For this reason, I had to look for a solution for this huge problem. The first step to take was improving my skills to raise my opportunities. I started to take intensive lessons in German, since most universities in German-speaking countries require a certain level of German proficiency for undergraduate programs. Still the bad conditions obliged me for about two months to stop the lessons. The second step was searching for convenient universities that offer the best opportunities and fit best to my needs. Through the search, I came across the announcement of Erasmus Mundus Program, which seemed to be the outlet I was looking for. Reading about all partner universities, the options were few because I was seeking a university that offers scholarships for degree seeking students, not just exchange students. Technische UniversitÃÆ' ¤t Berlin was the best choice for me because of the scholarships it offers and my knowledge of German language. Through further search, I found that TU Berlin has a very good rank in world ranking of universities in the major of information technology. All these reasons together made TU Berlin my number one priority among all universities. I want to study at TU Berlin because of its outstanding educational system, focus on gathering relevant work experience, and its excellent facilities. So I am confident of my decision. With many distinguished scientists as professors, I know that I will gain expert knowledge at the forefront of discovery. Further supporting professors lectures are the universitys use of advanced. All these strong positives allow me to pursue my dreams and ambitions. Given my past history of commitment to achieve my dream, I am confident that I will exceed the expectations, because of both my academic and interpersonal skills. Abortion Essays -- essays research papers

Abortion is a very controversial subject that has been continually argued over for the past few years and probably many years to come. The main controversy is should abortion be legalized? First before we get into the many sides of abortion we must first define abortion. Abortion is the destruction of the fetus or unborn child while the child is still in the mothers womb. This can be done by almost anyone from the mother herself to back alley abortions and even to abortions by clinics set up especially for this purpose. There are two sides to this abortion topic the PRO-LIFE which is those who are against abortion altogether and the PRO-CHOICE or those who believe it is the womans right to choose if she wants to have an abortion. These two groups offer different solutions to problem. The pro-life solution is to have the child and basically live with it. They believe abortion is not an answer. The pro-choice solution is abortion because of reasons they feel are appropriate. Although abortion is morally and ethically wrong should it be legal for victims of rape or incest who have no other alternative? There is no real answer to this controversy, there are two sides to it though which have been arguing for many years over the subject. The first is the pro-life group. This group does not believe in the abortion factor. To understand where the pro-life stands we must first understand its beliefs and reasons for its beliefs. Then we can discuss what their solution to the abortion topic is. Pro-life believes that rape and incest are very emotional topics. "They often elicit throughout the population feelings of revulsion; people draw back from the issue of rape and incest. People don't know how to handle a person who is in that much pain. There is no quick fix. That is why it is difficult for even pro-life people to come to grips with the argument over abortion in cases of rape and incest." Some of those who are pro-life will allow abortion in these cases because they don't know what else they can do for the victim and except it as a rare case. But it is known that allowing abortion in these cases usually does not help the victim, instead it only worsens the problem because the victims needs are not being met. But what the facts suggest is that only a minority of rape and incest victims actually choose abortion. This is where ... ... legal for all. When a person chooses to have sex she is taking a chance. This she does of her own free will, and she has control over what she is doing. This is the total opposite of the rape victim. If a person decides to have sex whether it is safe or not, what happens after that is her responsibility as well as his. And if you are going to chose to participate in this risky and unsafe practice then you must be ready to pay the consequences. I also believe that a fetus is still a child contradictory to the beliefs of the Pro-Choice. I think that when two people create something like a child, even if it is as small as a fetus it should still be considered a child because it is a living breathing organism made by the two people. I think that even a fetus has rights to a good life, love and happiness no matter how small it is and no one should be able to take that away from him. Therefore my solution to the abortion problem is it should be legal for only those who are victims of rape or incest if they so chose to have an abortion. But should be illegal for those who are not victims because they chose to do what they did and they must deal with what they have created.

Nicholson and Riley “Indiana writers in history”

Nicholson and Riley are two of the most celebrated Indiana writers in history. Their portrayal of the culture is outstanding considering they each didn†t completed high school. Their writings came from the heart of Indiana. They are both considered true sons of Central Indiana. In the essays they both had different views of Indiana, but both were leaning on the same premise of homey, beautiful and comfortable. Riley and Nicholson brought a real feel to the images they wrote about.. The two writers created an â€Å"atmosphere† about Indiana that everyone would enjoy. Riley and Nicholson saw different things in Indiana and they both loved the state and all aspects of it. The traditions the authors created were some of pride and glory of the difference they had between other states. Hoosiers were rather bias when it came to there own state. They thought of it as state in which someone really didn†t wanted to leave and if they did they were always happy to come back. In Nicholson†s essay on Indianapolis he states that Indiana people think the more they travel to other states the more they like their own city or state. Hoosiers were proud to be from this state. They felt that other states only dreamt of possessing this same pride and glory. Maybe a false tradition Riley created could have been that a reader from another state reads this and has never been to Indiana, will think that everyone in Indiana is a low-educated, hillbilly, a hick from the back woods. The fact is, education wasn†t highly needed on the farm. But a farming education is still and education. They skills they learned on the farm where just as valuable as the skills you learn in the classroom. Each writer did speak of the neighborliness of the people in the state and how they would give someone anything they had to offer. This lifestyle is s imilar to the current Morman way of life. They each mention how earthly Hoosiers were by putting trees on the sidewalks in the city and the swimmin†-hole they loved as children. Nicholson talked about the city of Indianapolis and how it had a natural feeling. However this feeling can also be translated to the entire state. This was because of Indiana†s low urbanization and education. The people didn†t need all the high tech trains and whistles in their state they liked. That is just the way it was. The authors† spoke of the kindness the people in the state, even for strangers. Indiana was safe and women could go to the market without having to worry about being attacked or robbed. Riley made points about the everyday life of the normal Hoosier and the things they went though. Riley talked about punkins† and how the people didn†t come up with many ideas of their own but when they did, they stood by them. The writers celebrated many traditions of Indiana in their own special way. Riley and Nicholson brought different experiences to the readings. Riley gave the real dialect of the people of Indiana and how they spent their days on the farms, while Nicholson talked about the kindheartedness of the people of Indiana. In all my trips to Indiana and while living here, I have found that Nicholson†s writings of the people back then hasn†t really changed that much. One of the factors while choosing Butler as my University, was the Gentleness of the Indiana culture. The two writers, in their writings made a pretty complete picture of Indiana. But it appears they both left out the northerner Indiana people.. They concentrated on the central and border southerner, but rarely mentioned the north. While the role of the Northerners culture was minor, their Indiana†s traditions and values were substantial. The Northerners played a function in the diversity of the state and the cultural cradle Indiana formed in the Midwest. While I have resided in Illinois my entire life, and now reside in Indiana, I see the differences in the people of Indiana and the pride they feel for their state. Illinois may not feel such a pride since their culture around the Chicago area is so diverse. There are many residents that come from all over the world. In Indiana, their roots are from the farm communities where their forefathers sweated blood and tears to farm their land, feed and educate their children, and die trying. Riley and Nicholson just put into words all the feelings the people of Indiana feel. After reading these excerpts, you realize, the Indiana people know all this but it was nice to read about why they feel so strongly about their state. Now Bobby Knight might be a different story!

Free Will And Determinism A Clockwork Orange - 901 Words

A Clockwork Orange demonstrates the philosophically issues of free will and determinism through how the main character was treated in the movie. It also addresses important issues such as ethics, philosophy of the mind, free will and determinism, and the problem of perception. Philosophers such as John Hospers, B.F. Skinner, and Jean-Paul Sartre have different views on the issue through their theories of how individuals are or are not responsible for the free will choices that they make in life. The main character in the movie was a very violent , and reckless person. He participated in sinful acts such as being a gang member, raping women, being involved in fights, etc. These actions resulted in him being sent to prison and eventually being brainwashed into doing things out of his character. The three philosophers have very different interpretations of how the main character should have been dealt with and the reasonings behind his actions. Intro Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, more commonly known as Raphael, was an admirable and innovative artist that lived during the High Renaissance period. He was a painter, an architect, and a poet, and his creativity left a lasting impact in the world of art. His painting in particular was highly regarded; some considered Raphael to be the incarnation of painting itself and others said he was the greatest painter of the western world. Even those who had a low opinion of Raphael gave him credit for his greatness. His final painting, The Transfiguration, demonstrates the epitome of his renowned techniques, harmonious color choices, ease of composition, and clarity of form in a wonderful piece from the Italian Renaissance. Spelling by Margaret Atwood free essay sample

Chen Mrs. Mekhala MYP Year 5 Language Arts April 3, 2013 Poem Analysis on â€Å"Spelling† Margaret Atwood’s Spelling is a sophisticated and emotional poem. Like much of Atwood’s poetry, it has one central objective deeply rooted in her feminist beliefs. She aims firstly at the women in history by expressing the horrors of the low social status of women and how they were tortured in war; then she explains that education is what gives women the power to stand up for themselves and fight for freedom and convinces more people to start receiving education. She denies the ideas of â€Å"housewives† and â€Å"daughters† and explains it is what keeps the female gender weak throughout history. Atwood convinces the readers to abduct this old view of females and understand the importance of education. She does this through appalling sensual images, attitude shifts and connotations to the reader and describes a volcano eruption with clear sensory language, making this poem one of the most powerful poem in history. The shocking impression Atwood uses to portray the tormented women in history is given more strength by the remarkable range of poetic devices and sensual languages she uses, including metaphor, choice of diction and sensual appeals. This child is most likely going to receive education, but she is too young and does not realize that. Just as a few simple letters could also reintegrate to form all the words in English. Then, the poet mentions her daughter is learning â€Å"how to make spells. The word â€Å"Spells† used here mean words but also has a connotation of magic and sorcery. It represents her daughter’s imagination, combining letters together like experimenting or an adventure. In the next stanza, â€Å"daughters† has a different meaning from the most common known definition. Instead of meaning a girl in relation to her parents, it represents the common figure of a women at that time period, which is a housewife. â€Å"Mainline† is word often used for drug addicts when injecting drugs, this word symbolizes lust and hunger. It can strongly express the feeling of a woman who wants to receive education in a time period of sexism and prejudice. When the â€Å"ancestress† was burnt to death, the poet did not mean her ancestress, but all the females in history treated cruelly. This technique made this extremely easy to visualize, bringing the reader back in time to the darkest ages in history for women. This shocks the reader and subverts masculism and sexist ideologies applied by masculist writers. Atwood also applies metaphor in this poem. The poet takes us to a scene of a volcano eruption. In Atwood’s language, we feel the sophisticated dread and the strength of nature impact on our hearts. It describes how it feels when one cannot express her feelings with words, the language is so poor that it â€Å"falls away from hot bones, at the point were the rock breaks open and darkness flows out of it like blood, at the melting point of granite† This description can refer to the ancestress in the last stanza, burnt with her mouth sealed with leather. The word â€Å"witch† means they were performing wizardry, or something against social norms, which is the reason they are killed. This â€Å"witch† is compared to the poet’s daughter in the first stanza, experimenting with education. Atwood uses this to represent the women who tried to express their ideas, but were forced to be silenced forever. Although human bones, the strongest structure of the body, cannot withstand fire, it is still not the end. Just as it is not the end of a stone when it is melt to magma. After the suffering of high temperature, the stone will become more solid and tough. Just like human, without going through pain and confronting their weaknesses, there is no meaning or power. Atwood emphasizes her final point in this stanza: One must confront their weaknesses in order to let the body itself able to speak. The final main approach Atwood uses is the comparison of attitudes between the last and first stanza. It brings the reader back to the word learning process, but not with toys. â€Å"How do you learn to spell? † The answer is not longer plastic letters, or letters. but â€Å"Blood, sky the sun,† The blood that flows in women nature, the part of sky that women should have and the sun to shine on everyone. Learning to spell is not a game or adventure anymore, but the gain of education and power. This stanza is strongly supported by the phrase Atwood used in the previous stanzas â€Å"A word after a word after a word is power. † This phrase is powerful and leaves the reader realizing the true power of knowing to speak. Spelling is a poem of many layers and approaches but only one main objective, all rooted in the poet’s feminist beliefs. She uses strong sensual images created by metaphors, connotations and attitude shifts to achieve her main goals of expressing the importance of education to women in history.
